Akoya pearls
Akoya pearls are the classic pearl. They were the first variety of pearl to ever be cultured in the early 1900s. Utilizing a technique discovered by William Saville-Kent in Australia, Kokichi Mikimoto of the Mikimoto pearl company was the first to successfully and consistently ground round pearls in the Akoya pearl oyster. For the past 100 years, Akoya pearls have been synonymous with classic beauty and elegance. They are the roundest of all pearl varieties, and are known for their sharp luster and pink overtones. We offer every common size, from the conservative 6.0 to 6.5 mm, to the sophisticated 9.0 to 9.5 mm. The strands have been hand-selected for their thick nacre, high luster and clean surfaces. We only sell high-grade Akoya pearls that will not peel or crack under normal wear.
